In the opening bout of the Art of Boxing/ Bash Boxing card, super bantamweight Erik Ruiz of Oxnard, CA won an action-filled six round split decision over Oscar Venegas. Ruiz (8-0, 4 KOs) landed the more telling blows, especially with lead right hands to the head of Venegas. However, Venegas was able to land straight counter right hands to the head of Ruiz. As Ruiz's punch output dropped in the final two rounds, Venegas (3-2, 2 KOs) pressed the action, landing on the inside. However Venegas dug himself too big of a hole as one judge scored the bout 58-56 in his favor, while the other two judges scored the bout 59-55 and 58-56 for Ruiz, who is trained by Robert Garcia.
