If Mayweather was going to fight him he would be fighting him on May 4th instead of Guerrero who brings less than half the money Canelo does. Just as the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight never happened the Mayweather-Canelo fight will never happen even if Canelo looks great against Trout. I can't prove it but I am sure Floyd will not be fighting above 147 ever again. I see nothing wrong with that as long as he gives up the WBA Jr. middleweight tittle he is never going to defend.

Worst case scenario is Canelo flat out losing to Trout, which is very possible.

But I don't think the hype would be anywhere near what Pac vs Mayweather would've been in 2010-2011. Pacquiao was selling 1 Mill PPVs which Canelo has yet to do much less headline an actual PPV. It would just be the young lion trying to take the old one out as where May vs Pac was the 2 #1s fighting to see who the best was of the era.

I totally agree. Anyone with two eyes and two ears should know this by now but you know how it goes, it'll somehow be thrown on Canelo as his fault the fight didn't transpire. His die hards are already saying that Canelo is to blame for trying to boss Mayweather around by "forcing" him to fight in September but Canelo knew that his presence on the PPV undercard would do more for Floyd than it would for him and that Floyd would high tail it in the other direction if he had nothing more than a verbal agreement....which he indeed did.
