Comments Thread For: Team Canelo: Mayweather Still a Target For September

According to Jose 'Chepo' Reynoso, trainer and manager of WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the door is not closed on a possible fall fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26KOs). The two boxers were negotiating a possible fall match, which Canelo claims Mayweather turned his back on by refusing to sign a contract. Canelo will face WBA champion Austin Trout in a unification match on April 20th in San Antonio, and Mayweather will defend his WBC welterweight title against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The guys so fixated with Floyd he seems to be completely overlooking Trout. Not a wise move IMO

mayweather put on a clinic against canelo. why does this guy continues to want to fight smaller weight class fights? i'm shocked that he's fighting trout who is in his weight class.plus canelo continues to duck lara.

Good luck with that bro. you would have to beat Trout but look horribly in the process. show some serious flaws Floyd can exploit because god forbid Floyd is on even terms with his opponents.

Then let me guess, Canelo will be a cherry pick then?

Last time I checked, Floyd's last fight was at 154 and he had another one at 154 plus he is a top P4P fighter plus has a title at 154.

The funniest part about what you said is that Floyd has made a career of fighting guys that have 0, 1 or 2 fights in the 147 division.

                  Hatton - 1 fight
                  Marquez - 0 fights
                  Guerrero - 2 fights
                  Ortiz - 1 fight
                  Sharmba - 1 fight

After saying all that, Canelo needs to continue gaining experience and competition and think about taking on Floyd next year because like you said, Trout is his first true test at 154.

What you're saying is true but all these guys natural weight is more than Floyds. He and Marquez may have the same natural weight.
