Comments Thread For: Malignaggi, Chaves Agreement Made For Interim Fights

The World Boxing Association has been advised that WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, and mandatory challenger Diego Chaves, have reached an agreement through their managers to take interim fights before facing each other in a mandatory showdown. The WBA had ordered a purse bid for Monday. Both of the boxers will now move forward with other bouts. Provided they both win, the WBA will order the two of them to fight each other next. Malignaggi is scheduled to defend his title against Adrien Broner on June 22nd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Broner, the WBC's champion at 135, will move up in weight by two divisions to take the fight.

Chaves was offered the fight multiple times in Abu Dhabi before Broner even came into the picture, he turned it down. Not someone who was desperate for a title shot.

Still don't get why Chaves didn't go ahead with the Paulie M fight when he had the chance to.

How does that work????? Pauli is agreeing to fight his WBA Mandatory Challenger Chaves AFTER he fights Broner. So how is he going to do that after Broner torches him and takes the WBA title?????????????????

I haven't seen any news yet about a fight actually having happened in Abu Dhabi, although I see it mentioned often.

So if Broner wins he has to fight Diego Chaves?

                  He might as well vacate.

Broner is clearly the better fight, why are you complaining?

Half the time mandatories are bull**** fights anyway. Governing bodies stop a bunch of good fights and sanction ridiculous ones like the WBC and Chavez/Canelo.
