I know he was a mandatory, I still don't excuse it. Greater champions than Wlad has given up belts to avoid such a disappointing matchup. Wach might have been bigger, but his best win was a fat Kevin McBride who in his prime was a C level fighter - no disrespect to him. Holmes didn't particularly fight in a bad era, there was many good fighters some '78-'88 where he was champion. He was 48-0 and had more title defences than anyone. Tyson era was crap, but he's the youngest undisputed HW of all times. However, nobody with respect for themselves will have either of those in top 10 HW of all times. Going back all the way to Jack Johnson and fighters who had 150 fights. Wladimir can do whatever he wants, but he wont be in top 10. All of those fighters have been in exiting, epic wars. Defined boxing for their era - took the publics imagination - so that when they fought, the world stood still. They had a nemesis who the world was waiting for them to fight. Look at Tunney, Marciano, Bear, Lennox, Johnson, Louis, Dempsey, Ali, Schmeling ( who fought in front of 100 thousand+ people). After these guys come Liston, Tyson, Holmes, Holyfield, Wlad, Patterson and those types of guys. And once again, I reiterate - head to head Wlad might have had a chance - but we wouldn't know because he hasn't been in with someone who was really on his level (post brewster). Btw, Lewis won Olympic gold in 1988 - not sure if you knew. He should have won in '84 also, but he was robbed in the final.

You compare a veteran of almost 60 fights who has been champion for almost 10 years to a guy who is a 15 fight novice? What are you on? I'd like to get some of that. And no, if he fought actual challengers Fury, Pulev, Povetkin etc I wouldn't be bashing him. But when he gives these guys the chance to win the biggest prize in sports (and there's always a chance, we all know he has a dodgy chin) I will "bash" him as you call it.Last edited by LacedUp; 03-08-2013, 09:51 AM.Comment

There was no comparison of Wlad and Price. But you - among many others - said that Price would KO Thompson faster than Wlad did, and you were wrong. In other words, those guys Wlad are fighting are maybe not that bad, Wlad just makes them look bad, because of his own superiority. Like he made Haye look timid.
Perhaps Price should fight Pianeta.
Yes, Pianeta is much more suitable for that level at the time being. I agree.Comment

I meant Wlad also won Olympics like Lennox did. In 84' Lewis never made to the final, he lost in quarter final. For you ATG is something more mystical than tham it should be. Yes I agree they had a great fights but being ATG is not only about it. Being HOF is. All time greatness is also about skills, resume and the "it" factor. For Tyson it was being youngest undisputed champ, for Wlad it is being most dominant.Comment

but if he had been born 10years earlier, he would have been just another contender and get KOed by Lewis, and would be too old to profit from beating up poor HWs of the late Norties and today.
And then he'd never have made the top 50, let alone top 20.Comment

Sorry I meant quarter-final. No I don't think it is. Being the greatest of all times is not only about skill. It is more mystical than that. Does Wlad really have the 'it' factor? Do you get up on your chair when he fights? Do you bite your nails? This can be discussed for years to come and people have their own definitions, but I doubt anyone will have Wlad in the top 10. I have him right around 20 at the moment, Vitali a few spots further down. Wlad could enhance a couple of spots, but never to top 10. The era is simply too weak. He should have been born 10 years earlier.Comment
