Chavez Sr. first 42 fights compared to Canelos...

With all do respect to JCC Sr. if you look at his first 42 fights, Canelo actually has a better resume thus far. Trust me, I am no Canelo fan "but" with this being considered are we a little to harsh on Cinnabon?

You make a valid point. I agree. Sr. is still a ATG, he won when it mattered but he fought a guy who was 0-15 for his 50th fight. I mean if someone were to do that today, there would be outrage. Not saying Canelo is nowhere near Sr, either.

This isn't even a good comparison because chavez wasn't a champion until around his 50-60th fight. So he wasn't expected to fight the top dogs division yet because he was still climbing title contention. Canelo on the other hand was basically given a title at 154 by fighting mathew hatton who isn't a 154 lb fighter, and just fighting the weaker part of the division and having fighters move up instead of fighting the other champions or contenders. When chavez became champion his whole championship fights are built around fighting the other top fighter in his division and not "milking the title" even tho canelo now is fighting trout, he still milked that title for to long.

Fighters back then fought stay busy fights. Look at who Duran fought before beating Leonard. Instead of sparring in the gym, they actually fought fights a month or even less apart

JCC took long to develop, he didnt get a belt until like 20 fights later then canelo did. Same with Sergio. Canelo on the other hand was given a belt and then allowed to "develop"

Chavez is a special case, let's look at their competition in title bouts. Canelo has had 6 title fights and managed to fight only one top 10 guy, that's pretty bad. Chavez fought nothing but top contenders once he won the title.

Try not to put Chavez and Canelo in the same sentence again please thanks in advance.

The problem is, he's been holding a belt hostage. He's only fought bums and small guys and he never deserved to have a title. Then he only defended against bums and small guys. If you're young and need time that's fine people can understand that. But don't hold a title and refuse to fight anyone decent, it's hypocrisy. That's the reason he's been criticized. At least he's fighting Trout now though.

WTF? Sr first 40 fights happened during his first three years. He was fighting every month. Dont compare career, they are not the same.

Like some posters here said back then they fought stay busy fights & Chavez was NOT handed any belt & when he was champion he fought the best. Chavez fought Mario Martinez for his first belt>>> CANELO fought mathew Hatton.... I know you said "with all do respect", but don't belong in the same sentence & the only way CANELO would ever be on the same ring as Chavez is if he were holding his spit bucket.
