Jose Nieves (22-2-3, 11 KO's), who put together a run of five straight wins and is now ranked fifth at 118 pounds under the WBO, could be close to a shot at the title captured a few days ago by African boxer Paulus Ambunda (20-0 and 10 KO's), who scored a unanimous decision to unseat Pungluang Sor Singyu (43-2, 28 KO's) in bout staged in Namibia. Nieves', 32-years-old, holds the WBO's Intercontinental title and his career is handled by All Star Promotions and company president Félix 'Tutico' Zabala.
