I know most will say the sanctioning belts "but" fighters leap frog weight divisions nowadays like its cool leaving behind plenty of unfinished business. If the weight classes weren't so close, then we'd have more undisputed champs and more fight friendly fights, at least IMO.
Whats the bigger problem in boxing, 2 many weight classes or 2 many world titles?

Too many titles. There's nothing wrong with diversity in sizes being reflected in the number of weight classes. The fact that 8 classes is how it was originally doesn't make it correct.Comment

Too many titles. Imagine of it had another world title when Duran went up to welterweight. He could avoided Sugar Ray, instead of facing him. Then he'd be just like Floyd, with no win over a prime atg. He coulda danced around like Floyd & Pacman did with each other.Comment

The abundance of belts could actually work in boxing's favour if they were used to make mandated true Championship fights, ie the titleists were obliged to fight each other, but they instead turn the sport into a joke.Comment

I agree with the others - it's titles. You've got several fighters claiming to be a 'world champion' in a weight division. Most sports can only have 1 person or team as champion within a category. The best compete against the best to find out who is number 1.
The Super Six is about as close as it has come in recent years.Comment

I agree with the previous posters. Way to many belts and it gives fighters a way to duck each other like bushbaby said.Comment
