When you compare his punishment to people who took PED or testeterone pellets like Lamont Pederson or Andria PEDrto then it's freaking harsh, the fact that both can get a doctor to certified that the usage of the pellet is needed is even more of a smack of the face of any intelligent boxing fan.

Punishment was fine. The others just got off way too lightly. His punishment wouldn't have been anywhere near as high if he wasn't caught with stuff before.

I'm in favour of harsh punishments. People shouldn't cheat, and in a very lax sport, there needs to be more incentive.

I think it's probably the right punishment if you take the Chavez Jr case solely on its own. He knew it was banned (or at least should have) and, it's what, the 2nd time he's been caught? Justifiable to an extent I'd say.

That said when you then compare it to the punishments Berto & Peterson got; it looks harsh. There punishments should have been a lot harsher IMO but there just doesn't seem to be any consistency in boxing.

He may have been given the chance to tell the truth and they didn't like what he said. It's hard to say because they're all given the chance to tell the truth but deny, deny, deny can help or hurt you...denying everything makes it looks like it was an accident - but not taking for responsibility for your actions once found guilty based on solid evidence might not go over when face-to-face with the commission when you're hoping for leniency on the punishment.

Can't really say because he could have rolled in there saying, "Yea, I did it...can we get this **** over with" and they would probably get mad at his attitude and suspend him just the same...even though he was being honest.

Almost 1 million to the commission... it probably didn't matter what he said.

              totally excessive.

this is nothing more than a money grab to fill the coffers of boxing officials.

its the same thing in the nba. stern and his ubiquitous fines are just a money making scheme.

I feel like he deserves the suspension but the fine is definitely excessive. A million dollars for smoking weed? GTFO

A 9-month ban for a second time offender is ridiculous. It should have been minimum 2 years out.

He'll just get a card next time. It's ****** though, 1 mil fine and 9 months when actual DRUG CHEATS that have STEROIDS in their system get off scott free with a smile and all. Chavez Jr doesn't seem like the type to care really, so to him it's not a big deal but it's pretty ****** for boxing to punish the pot smoker and not the steroid abusers in this sport.

I remember that they randomly tested by the commission on July 19th and were clean. So either he cheated that test or he started smoking after that, once the fight was already on the calender. I'm a weed smoker myself, but that is pretty dumb.

                      July 19th Test:
