  • Comments Thread For: Mathebula Returns, Faces Ndlovu in IBF Eliminator on 3/23

Former IBF super bantamweight champion Jeffrey Mathebula, who lost in his title in a gutsy twelve round unanimous decision to “Fighter of the Year” Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, returns to the ring to face the fighter from whom he won the title, fellow South African Takalani Ndlovu at the Carnival City “Big Top Arena” on March 23.

The blockbuster card put together by award-winning promoter Branco Milenkovic will be headlined by the Mathebula-Ndlovu clash following two previous dramatic fights with differing outcomes starting with Ndlovu’s controversial split decision victory in an IBF title eliminator way back in September 2010.

Good to see Mathebula back in the ring soon. He showed he is as game as they come. He's a giant for 122 I can't see how he even makes weigh especially at his age. He'd still be a huge featherweight if he were to move up, he should test the waters at 126 IMO, it could be a good move for him.

this promoter must have shares in the IBF...

in seems like ndlovu has been in every title fight or IBF eliminator at 122 since he first lost to steve molitor years ago...

Ndlovu just lost an eliminator in October. So now he's in another one? This is starting to smell like a South African IBF circle jerk similar to what went on at junior lightweight for years.

AFAIK his loss was highly controversial, maybe that's why he's got another eliminator. They lodged a protest, maybe this is the result.

The judges seemed to fill out their cards before the fight ended. Nearly everyone on press row had Takalani Ndlovu winning the fight by one or two rounds. When the decision was announced the crowd booed, unusual for the border town, considering the pro-Mexican crowd. But El Pasoans know their boxing – they threw paper cups and cans of soda at the Mexican who was declared the winner with scores of 116-111 twice and 117-110.
