Richard Abril successfully defended his WBA lightweight belt Saturday night against Sharif Bogere in a fight that resembled a MMA fight more than a boxing match. Abril said that he adjusted to Bogere's style early on in the fight and he blamed the African for the dirty tactics that were prevalent throughout the fight.

"I felt him out in the first round and I studied him to see what he was going to do but with the way the referee called the fight it ended up going the way that it went," Abril explained.

I wouldnt be surprised if this is the reason why Abril didnt get shafted last night. Set up a title defense vs a GB fighter to then set up a unification match vs another GB fighter.

The biggest fight at 135 for Broner is Gamboa. But I assume the powers that be are gonna wanna let that one marinate until at least the end of the year. For the June date, the Burns-Vazquez winner is obviously the nest option. But if that can't be made, I'd settle for Abril. Both of those fights are better than the Malignaggi fight being tossed around.

I think Broner has only a few decent fights at 135 and those are vs the winner of Vqzquez vs Burns (IMO Vazquez is going to take this one), Abril or Gamboa.

I say lets do a mini tourney with the Burns-Velasquez winner, Broner, Abril and Gamboa. If Broner wins he will get 2 more fights at 135 in the tourney and move up to 140. Same for Abril. Gamboa should not go up anymore if he wins. The other guys either.
