Comments Thread For: Peter Fury on Tyson, Price, Cunningham, Audley, Cooney

Peter Fury took the reins of his nephew Tyson Fury’s training set-up at the turn of 2012, wins over Martin Rogan (TKO 5), Vinny Madalone (TKO 5) and Kevin Johnson (W12) followed during the following year. Tyson, 20-0 (14), is scheduled to meet former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham, 25-5 (12), at Madison Square Garden’s Theatre on April 20 in a bout that will decide the IBF’s #2 heavyweight contender.

Peter believes that the fight will showcase the new slimline Fury’s skills and burgeoning maturity. “Tyson is looking fantastic, he’s improving his arsenal because we’re working on a lot of angles, variety of shots, and speed and power, so expect to see a new Tyson — he’s really coming into his own now,” he said when speaking to BoxingScene. What he's done with Tyson Fury is remarkable. Fury was a decent contender a few years ago, now he's a top five Heavyweight who could one day beat Wladimir.

the only thing i disagree with is that they were bringing price along wrong. they brought several decent journeymen in to fight him. he blew all the domestic level opponents away. he was ready for a step up. thompson is at world level but he is 41. looking at thompson's resume you would have thought he was a good opponent to bring in. thompson has never beaten a top contender & his only 2 step up fights were title shots vs wladimir. all i wanted to see was price get hit by a heavyweight punch.

We Irish Americans and American fight fans are really looking
forward to seeing Tyson Fury's first major fight in the U.S.
With wealth T.V. and youtube iv'e watched alot of Tyson's fight's
I will say you take one look at his physique you can tell he is
training at an all world level and is being schooled by uncle Peter
he is a whole different fighter. Keep up the hard work we need a
charismatic replacement for the great but boring Klitsko's.

Going to be a good fight and very interesting to see how Fury is developing, no doubt he has the tools to go all the way, but as Price proved: disaster is never far away.

              hmmmm

Personally i think the whole attitude from peter fury is a bit soft in his approach. The problem is the mental attitude towards tysons approach to being word champion.Firstly to be a great world champion you got to think like a world champion and be aggressive like a world champion,And be the guy that puts the pressure on,holmes did it,holyfield did it bowe did it hagler did it and emannuel steward tried to force that into lewis style and klitchkos whom both were fighters that were too nervous early on in their careers to confidently use their strengths and abilities, lennox was a lazy guy trying to tit around and left himself open and klitchko too scared of getting hurt, too put dominance on a fight, lewis didnt like pressure applied to himself so he had to learn that pushing forward and using his big jab and power was the only way to counteract and not sit around waiting to get nailed himself, steward even admits he found it frustrating working with guys that dont dominate weaker opponents.Spinks stole fights from older guys and if holmes was 2 years younger he would have had spinks out in both encounters, tyson revealed the true spinks that applying brutal force to softer weaker opponents is definite must...If i was in tysons corner i wouldn't be doing interviews telling the whole world tyson should be cautious,Id be telling the world "my fighter will destroy anything thats put in front of him,hes got a bigger reach a bigger heart and more power"peter furys approach dont exactly put the living fear in anyone and mentally thats half the battle, youd never hear tyson holyfield hagler ali fraisers trainers or corner men saying"oooh we got to be carefull"world chapions dont think that way.....They just know.......
