So with the big stiff idiot getting clobbered last weekend I feel it's time to take a look at the ol' British Chins theory. A glass chin is a terrible thing, so I work on an innocent until proven theory. I'm going to rank the top 10 British boxers on boxrec, then we can discuss my scientific findings.
#1 Carl Froch
One of the best in the sport imo, has been down once but against the competition he's faced that's acceptable
Chin Rating 9/10
#2 David Haye
Was accused of having a glass chin for a long time, but he's never legitimatley been down at heavyweight, and did take some solid right hands off Wlad, so I think his chin is ok
Chin Rating 7/10
#3 Kell Brook
Can't rate it against his opposition, seems ok
Chin Rating 7/10
#4 Ricky Burns
Again, seems ok, he has hit the canvas before but hasn't had many problems for a long time
Chin Rating 7/10
#5 Tyson Fury
Down once against Pajkic, but got through most of his career with piss poor defence and getting hit flush a lot, I think his chin is good
Chin Rating 8/10
#6 Matthew Macklin
Not good or bad imo
Chin Rating 6/10
#7 Tony Bellew
Not great, he's liable to be floored by decent punchers and will probably be stopped when he steps up
Chin Rating 5/10
#8 Ola Afolabi
Good chin, been in wars and it's held up.
Chin Rating 7/10
#9 Amir Khan
Pretty bad chin, been ko'd twice, can't take a solid shot
Chin Rating 3/10
#10 George Groves
Shaky at best, almost stopped by Anderson, a KO waiting to happen imo
Chin Rating 5/10
Conclusion
We score an average of 6.4/10, which is not great, although in our defence we are dragged down considerably by Amir Khan in the top 10, if it wasn't for him we'd be above a 7/10.
Our chins are not the best, but nor are they certified glass.
I conclude that British Boxers on average are likely to have AVERAGE chins.
