I can't remember whether Briggs was Vitali's mandatory or not.

If so, HOW? If not, what did he do to earn a title shot?

Briggs had a nightmare on that night that he would: get blasted over and over again by a monster,get screwed out of his $900 k by his management,have the blood vessels in his arms broken, and spend some quality time in a German hospital...and it was all voluntary. I think he may have been a one-time former champion. I recall reading some years ago that when he fought Foremen, Foreman had already been stripped over 2 years previously for not re-matching Axel Schultz, so it was not for a title.

He was a 1-fight chmpion anyway, he beat Liakhovitch, and I saw the fight which Liakovitch was winning well until at the very end he walked into a lucky punch. You may remember it yourself.

You don't seem to understand the mening of the word "voluntary" in boxing. Every fight is "voluntary" if you want to look at it that way. they don't HAVE to be boxers. A voluntary defence in boxing is just that instead of the organisation-in this case the WBC- chosing the designated mandatory opponent, they allow the champion to chose his own, often an easier fight than the mandatory, enabling him to make extra money against a lesser fighter (a kind of "perk').

In this situation, Briggs was the voluntary opponent chosen by Klitschko for the reasons given by Freedom. And briggs jumped at the chance to grab a big payday and the chance of a lucky punh winning a title, which would have meant bigger paydays. Versteht??
