As others have said, he should go after the winner of Smith/Molina. If he wins that, then fight Canelo (assuming he loses to Trout). If he wins that, then he could either aim high and go for a showdown with Martinez (probably a bad idea) or bring some Euro fighter to the MSG like Baysangurov/Jonak for his final fight.
I think Cotto should just retire.

Who was the last guy Cotto beat that you could even feasibly rank in the top 5 of their division (and I'm not talking about bull**** rankings, we as fans know who the best are in their divisions) at the time of the fight? Margarito? No, Clottey? No, Foreman? No, Mayorga? No, Jennings? No
Cotto hasn't had a good victory since Mosley in 2007. Cotto is 4-5 in his last 9 fights
His career is over, and he disrespects the game by constantly changing trainers because he doesn't want to pay them a respectful wage for their work
I used to be a huge fan of his but not anymore
im not sure where you find your facts...
i didnt know cotto was 4-5 in his last 9 fights... i hadnt realized he lost 5 times...
In most credible rankings ....Clottey and Margarito were both top 5 welterweights.... then he fights Manny Pacquiao lol... im amazed when people question his selection of opponents

i understand the split with cotto and steward was partly over money... but how does that give you a HISTORY of not wanting to pay your trainers fairly?
BTW the foreman fight was his first fight after taking a lot of punishment vs Pacquiao... and his first fight in a different weight class and he fights an undefeated champion (whos hand and foot speed were supposed to give cotto problems) and were talking ****? thats a high caliber tune up non ppv fight if you ask me.
the mayorga fight was a set up for a big money fight vs margarito... lets not forget that this was the same mayorga in the running for a Pacquiao fight... a year and change earlier that same mayorga was in a pretty tight fight with mosley before he got KOed... styles make fights, and a lot of people expected mayorga to cause Cotto Problems.... Cotto won almost every round of that fight.... then he fights Margarito....
If margarito was shot when cotto fought him for the second time... then margarito was shot when pacquiao fought him after the mosley ko... or one step further.... what effects did the first cotto fight have on margarito? and i qoute, "Cotto hit that joker with everything in the book"-****m... point is that all that is pure speculation.... Margarito looked strong, agressive, assertive, and better defensively in the rematch.... he just got beat by a smarter fighter...
then.... Mayweather and Trout... i respect this dudes resume... top notch... hate cant change history.

Honestly, I don't want to see Cotto vs Canelo. I did about 3 fights ago but not now. Canelo hands Cotto a brutal beating.
