If Garcia only had the WBC belt, I'd agree that Matthysse should hang on to the WBC mandatory status and tell GB to fuck off. The duck looks more blatant if he gives up his only belt, which makes Garcia vs Matthyse more likely. But Garcia also has the WBA belt so there's nothing stopping him from just dropping the WBC belt without it affecting his leverage. Garcia could also continue to play the Matthysse is nobody angle who lost to Judah and Alexander. But if Matthysse beats Peterson, he'll have a good name on his resume and a belt, which makes it harder to Garcia to duck Matthysse.

This is a great opportunity for Matthysse so I don't get why people are not liking it.

I agree. Say what u want about Peterson but he's pretty much at the same level as every top 5 fighter at 140. If Mathusse dominates him, he proves that he has a claim to be the #1 guy in the division. Peterson is one fight that can validate him. Will it make Garcia fight him? Maybe not but it makes the divisional picture that much clearer. It really it a good good fight.

If Golden Boy wanted to match Matthyse and Garcia after Judah/Garcia, it shouldn't matter if Matthysse gets an interim fight for a title. Both fights would only be 3 weeks apart so Garcia/Matthyse can happen next without any scheduling conflict. In the end whether it happens or not will ultimately be up to Golden Boy and Al Haymon so the mandatory spot is irrelevant. Matthyse isn't losing anything by giving up the WBC spot. Garcia/Matthyse is actually more likely if Matthyse grabs that IBF belt.

What I don't get is why you're so against Peterson/Matthysse when it has no bearing on Matthyse/Garcia happening.
It has no bearing on Lucas/Garcia happening because nothing has bearing on it except GBP. They control who faces who and it doesnt matter who he faces or what he does, GBP wont give him the fight. THey continue setting up road blocks hoping lucas will just lose and stop trying to mess up their Garcia-Khan rematch plans. There werent any scheduling conflicts for the fight to happen instead of Garcia-Judah, yet it didnt happen. Its funny how people keeping buying into this BS that the fight will "eventually happen". Im still waiting for Juanma-Gamboa, anybody know when it will be ripe?

This all to divert attention off of Garcia actually facing the best fighter, have the other 2 best fighters fight each other while Garcia does ****

Pretty much this. Although I think Garcia is going to ditch the belt rather than fight Matthyse because he has another title already. Not to mention that the WBC has said multiple times that theyre in the process of stripping Garcia because he won't drop the WBA belt.

Matthyse knocking off Danny and taking the belts is bad for business at GBP, just like how theyre shutting out the idea of Maidana knocking off Paulie and getting that welterweight title.

GBP got other plans, the fans and integrity of the sport be damned.

They want Garcia or Khan on top at 140 because they're heavily invested in Khan and Garcia looks like he's going to turn into a real money-maker.

He wont drop the belt. They are in the business of protecting him. Why havent they both stripped him nor forced him to face the mando? Because GBP has too much business tied up with them and told them not to.

IMO, he should take the IBF fight if it prevents itself. Matthysse should know the boxing politics and know he isn't going to get a Garcia shot. Best bet is to try and win Peterson's belt and try to unify.
Watch Garcia start fighting his madno's then

Not sure why he should settle and people are ok with that. Even with this, i highly doubt this fight happens either, this is just GBP trying to hype up something other then Garcia-Lucas
