Ya know, if Joe C had fought as he did in the amateurs the same as he did later in his pro career he would have been disqualified for slapping/cuffing n any olympic competition. Funny thing, yet the rule of a scoring a legal blow and slapping/cuffing are exactly the same in the amateur rule book and in the professional rule book.
I nearl puked when I saw Joe C cuffing Jeff Lacy about as he was allowed to do in their fight. Yeah, joe landed some good shots but most/if not all of the damage done to Lacys face was done by an illegal tactic in the ring. Cuffing will not only instantly cause swelling or cuts but it jogs your mind pretty good being hit by a thin piece of leather and the heel of a hand. Not that Lacey was anything great, I just couldn't understand how Joe C was never called on it. While he's flailing away like a school girl playing patty cake bouncing Lacys head from a heel of one hand, back to the heel on the other hand and back again, I found it funny that the commentators called that garbage 'flurries'. I never watched a Calzaghe fight again..........Rockin'

If Calzaghe is a 'great', then so is Sven Ottke and Dariusz M. Bottom line: he was wanted low risk high reward fights, like thenManfredo fight for example. 35,000 of his clown sheep fans paid to watch him slap Manfredo. The fact there's so much debate on Calzaghe's career shows why many saw him for what he really was.Comment
