Light heavyweight Medzhid Bektemirov remained undefeated at 11-0, 9 KOs after stopping Curtis Howell (3-3, 2 KOs) in the second round at the Bayou City Events Center in Houston. Despite having a considerable height and reach advantage, Howell opted to trade instead of box and he quickly paid the price.
Moments into the opening round, Bektemirov, 25, dropped Howell with a left hook to the chin. Another left hook followed by a shoulder block sent Howell, 31, to the canvass again, but the referee determined it was the push rather than the punch that caused the knockdown and ruled it a slip. Just before the bell a left uppercut-overhand right combination felled Howell once again. He beat the count but the writing was on the wall.
