or the guy that knocked him out in the last bout.

Marquez was the better pure boxer. He's crafty and his combination counter punching is a thing of beauty.

However Pac has done more accomplishment wise and was the better faster and more powerful althete. Just Marquez skill was his kryptonite.

As far as style that's all preference. If your Marquez you can beat anybody except a mayweather type specimen who's taller and faster with just as much skill. Pacmans style can beat anybody except defensive combination slugger/Counterpunchers like Marquez. Still feel he could outwork Floyd tho.

Marquez as a boxer...pacquaio as a fighter...but overall as a participant of the field of boxing...Marquez for the idea of pure skill, ring intelligance, and development...he's one of the best in the past 15 years...pacquaio never had elaborated boxing skills (i.e. defense and counter punching) but he had an agressive style that was always do or die...in their last fight, he basically died...Marquez did what he always was able to do...

JMM for him to be still fighting at this level at 39 is amazing, most fighters his size are done in their early 30's. Naturally smaller than Pacquiao and already in his 30's when the first fight happened and he outboxed prime Pacquiao in every fight. Prime JMM would have whooped Pac bad.

Marquez is a better boxer, his ring IQ is higher and he's better technically.

Pacquiao is the greater fighter, faster, stronger and more athletic

Just his physical level that makes it an equal fight.

i favour technicians over guys whose successes are predicated on athleticism as much as boxing skill/nous, so i'd be tempted to say Marquez is 'better'. especially considering all the issues he's given Pacquiao despite all of Pacquiao's perceived advantages.

but Pacquiao is Greater. his accomplishments are more abundant.

it really depends on what one likes.

H2H it's Marquez. Overall it's probably Pacquiao. Marquez is a masterful boxer, but Pacquiao was a phenomenal fighter in his prime. He did lots of things in his career that Marquez could never have done.
