They may succeed, if they don't they go bankrupt because employees won't work without their guaranteed agreed-on paychecks. If they succeed they make money.
It shouldn't cost them any more to live than it costs anybody. If they buy more expensive items they naturally pay more, but they don't have to do it. What they buy, they pay for, and it's all taxed and re-taxed and re-taxed again.
But, on top of all this, they are taxed on not just what they use, which use is the same as everybody elses, like roads and other public facilities, but they are taxed on their profits pro rata. So the more they make, the more they pay. Yet....their use of public facilities is in reality less than everyone elses.
Anyway, the wealthiest individuals and corporations pay the vast majority of all taxes. And there is a huge percentage of people who not only pay NO TAXES, but get income "supplements".....as well as use the public facilities more than anyone else. This all comes from the pockets of the wealthy, who don't even know them.
I'm not saying it's moral or acceptable.

The people/corporations with unimaginable wealth have hurt the economy, I don't see how that can even be argued. First of all, tax rates on the top 1% have been at historic lows for a while. Yes, the rich are paying more of their income in taxes...but that's because their incomes have skyrocketed in the past 10 years. The rates themselves are still low in comparison to our history.
We can argue over these new taxes or whatever, but there are massive corporations that profit billions of dollars a year and have no tax at all. They manipulate the system, hide trillions all over the place and, by avoiding taxes, deprive the rest of us from that part of the economy. 10% of the country owns about 60-70% of the wealth, does that sound like a recipe for success...us at each others throats over the remaining 30%? It's no wonder why racism, classism, and other ism's increase during recessions - when people have the perception that the other guy is taking food off their plate these tensions rise...in social psychology it's called Realistic Conflict Theory and it plays out all the time these days. It doesn't have to be like that.
In what era in US history have the corporations and banks ever shown that they would happily contribute more to society if only all their transactions were free, no taxes, no regulation? They have always been at odds with the government and will always, for whatever reason, have people fighting for their "oppression." They get all the protections of the laws, use it acquire everything they can, tie up and influence the courts with all their lawyers, but don't want to pay into a society that offers them the best opportunity for success in the first place.Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 02-12-2013, 01:47 AM.

You don't think the reason Arum is saying Pac wants to fight outside the us is really so HE doesn't get more money taken out from his piece of the Pacquiao ppv, his biggest earnings come from Pac fights, so you telling me a guy who has read every article and remembers the past sayings of Arum about pac not fighting in Cali or NY because of taxes, doesnt make me realize his agenda?
If you don't think Arum is using Pacquiao you are foolish, I doubt Pacman gives a crap or even knows anything about this tax stuff, Arum just told him about it and he says ok whatever you say you are my boss.
Pac isn't the brightest bulb.
You should really read what you're writing. You sound "around-the-bend", raving actually.
Arum, compared to REALLY rich people, is only a very tiny player, and has absolutely NO capability to influence or change governmental country-wide regulations. As he's rightly pointed out, having the fight outside the country would probably cost him (Arum) about $10 mill. Even if he's exaggerating, it will cost him a lot.
You paint the poor guy as if he were Dr. Fu Manchu himself, an evil world shattering figure who plots and plans the destruction of all, just for his own benefit. He invests millions in his fighters and the better he promotes them the more money he's likely to make. Why not?? You don't invest, he does.
The guy is a huge charitable donor. And have you forgotten what accidentally came out about Genaro Hernandez and his family??? You have to respect a guy who would do things like that more or less anonymously.
I don't know him, never met him, and although I expect to live part time in Las Vegas, never intend to. But for me anyway... I'm just being fair.

10-15% I don't ****ing believe it.
I saw a front page picture a few years ago in a Vancouver paper of a guy I knew when he was an ordinary fireman. He was just retiring as Chief Fire Commissioner, (or Superintendent). We used to pay tennis regularly and I was going out with his sister. He'd been a Boston Red Sox player, got injured, was no good any more for top ball, and was dumped. He got the job in the fire department so that he could play baseball for their team, even though he was an inch shorter than regulation.
In the 2 years before I met him, he'd never been to a fire, their station was never called out, their guys would turn up, go through exercises and were all doing other jobs in their off hours etc.
I still understand what you mean.Last edited by edgarg; 02-12-2013, 01:39 AM.
