    Sanctioning fees are taken as a % of purse. Floyd Mayweather holding a belt is good for sanctioning bodies because they collect more money from Floyd than any other fighter. And that is by an extremely wide margin.


    It's not fair, but when you have a guy that makes substantially more money than any other fighter in the sport, this is what you get. Cash cows play by different rules than the rest of the field.

      That's true, however Floyd's fight at 147 will not be sanctioned by the WBA, nor does it look likely that Floyd will be fighting at 154 any time soon, given he usually only fights once, maybe twice (if lucky, doubtful given his age) a year

      In fact, the WBA would be making more money by vacating the belt, and letting another 154'er fight for it.

        That's what they have Austin Trout for. The "regular" champion. lol

        They'll continue to make money from Trout's fights as if he is the champion. Then next time Floyd defends his belt, they'll make that big cash.
