The Truth About Floyd Mayweather...

Mayweather can choose anybody he wants he doesn't have to fight the Ghost or Canelo but he will. I don't think he fights Alexander in May because GBP might not get Canelo vs Mayweather in September. Which it will end up being Ghost vs Mayweather. So if I am Canelo way be on his undercards and help Mayweather sell on PPV. Mayweather does not get those numbers on his own. Your a fool if you think he does. He's a smart guy he wants to fight on Cinco De Mayo and sept 14 both big nights for Mexicans and Mexicans Americans. We love are boxing and we order the PPV fights on those days and party and bull s**t.Comment

This is the problem I have. Ellerbe stated that in 2013 Floyd only wants BIG fights. Floyd himself says that his fights are like the superbowl of boxing. Neither fight (either Guerrero or Alexander) are what I would consider "big" nor comparable to superbowl equivalent of boxing. Now its quite evident that Floyd has maybe 2-3 fights left in him before he calls it a career. That is unless he blows all his money and decides to come back for payday fights. So as a fan of the sport and or of Floyd, do you really want to see him end his career fighting the likes of Guerrero or Alexander? I sure dont! If Floyd want to put an exclamation point on his career, he needs to end it fighting the likes of Canelo, Martinez, Bradley, Pacquiao. Another thing that bothers Floyd is the fact that even though Pac lost his last 2 fights, he will still be the biggest fight and payday for Floyd. That stings his ego.Comment

I disagree. Sure that's what we all would preferred but his inactivity at this age combined with his jail sentencing combined with hum not looking great at 154 makes it alright for him to fight the Ghost. After that though it should be all big fights and no more time off until he retiresComment

I would like for him to fight Canelo or the Ghost. I be happy with either fighter it is what it is anything else is a let down to us fans.Comment

Prior to Floyd's tweet about him possibly facing Alexander, his fanboys would have scoffed at the idea. All of a sudden they are defending Alexander as a possible opponent. Pathetic if you ask me. Be true fans of the sport rather than groupies of one particular fighter. I cant stand Floyd the person but I will always pay to see him put his skills on display as long as its against a ppv worthy opponent. Safe to say I will NOT be paying for either Guerrero or Alexander.Comment

Exactly! If he read through the entire post with an open mind, he would've seen that the TS made some VERY valid points whether people agree or not. It's crazy how people label you something right away if they don't agree. Even at that point, he made no effort to prove him wrong, I would've at least liked to have seen that much.

For those wondering if Floyd was sick during the Cotto fight, I remember an interview he did with FH a couple of days before the fight and he was clearly sick. Sniffing and had a tissue in his hand. I remember the guys in here being worried if the fight might get called off since he seemed sick.
Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gH7ra-MiRE
(anyone know how to embed?)
Anyway, I thought the Cotto fight was sort of competitive but Floyd clearly won and did what he said he would and that's go toe-to-toe with Cotto. He proved his point that he could beat him at his own game. Crazy how after the fight people commended him for giving a fan friendly fight, now we're back to bashing him. Crazy.Last edited by Ferrarijones; 02-10-2013, 07:39 PM.Comment

This is a long psychoanalysis of what's going on with Floyd, but I'd bet $ on it being 95% true...
Luis "Cuba" Arias believes Floyd's move towards Alexander is just him showing he is the boss and isn't going to fight someone just because that's who everyone wants. I can believe this. It's almost like the media and boxing community has assigned Guerrero and Canelo as his opponents for 2013 without Mayweather ever acknowledging it. He very well may feel if that if he fights both of these guys as laid out, he is relinquishing some power.
All of this seems very silly and trivial to most people, but if you understand how much of a mental game boxing is, you understand how major this may be. Go back to when Broner fought DeMarco and Lampley/Merchant/Jones Jr were talking about DeMarco wearing the pink gloves and what did Jones Jr say?
"How do they force the Champion to wear them gloves? DeMarco really lost the fight when he agreed to wear those gloves"
On the surface, it's just gloves. But it is a back down and that mentality can carry into the ring. The mental game is that real, especially for Floyd with all that he has to lose.
And here is my point...Regardless of this mental dynamic, I honestly think this is amplified because I think Floyd has lost a step and I think he knows it. Floyd is obviously TERRIFIED of losing and both Guerrero and Canelo pose styles that may be difficult for him. I would not be surprised if he is legitimately concerned and that is influencing this stuff.
I think after Floyd beat Hatton, he was mentally VERY confident in his ability to beat damn near anyone. But even though he won, I think the Cotto fight changed Mayweather. Cotto is shot yet he gave Mayweather a tough fight. Cotto caught Mayweather with jabs repeatedly due to what looked like slowed reflexes from Mayweather. I am not sure that today's Floyd Mayweather would have taken the Mosley or Ortiz fight. We also don't know what the 3 month jail sentence did to Mayweather's skills. You also have the fact that Roger Mayweather is sick and may or may not be able to train at the appropriate level. I think all of these factors may be in place.
Floyd is a great champion and a master at the MENTAL aspect of this game. But I honestly think if he DOES fight two times this year and gets W's in both of those fights damn near no matter WHO he fights, it will speak tremendously about him and his place as an ATG.
Floyd is 43-0 but I think he is in uncharted territory because he's faced with the realization that his skills have diminished a bit. That changes EVERYTHING!Comment
