If you only do a little amateur boxing you'll be fine.

However getting hit in the head by trained people, for 6 weeks before a fight, and then on fight night, is bad. Especially because many boxers continue when they're badly stunned or wobbled. Being wobbled or stunned means your brain got shook so hard it's not working properly, to take more hits is real bad.

      Only if you get hit.

Does American Football cause brain damage? Obviously. Now imagine being punched in the head for 10-20 years or more.

It's the risk combat sports players take.

I took a human anatomy/biology course to fulfill a college requirement, mainly because I knew mostly females from the nursing program would be taking it too. Sure enough, there was only one other dude in that class. It ended up being one of the hardest courses I ever took, though.

Anyway, within the course we had a participation requirement, and I'd always ask boxing-related questions. I did ask a question on KO's, and the prof answered that indeed, KO = brain damage. It doesn't take asking an expert to figure that out, though, does it?

I also asked what's the worst that can happen from taking a kidney punch and the answer was death.

if you are a good boxer, meaning schooled in the art of hitting without getting hit you should be fine unless you fight way too long. you can take alot of shots and get knocked out without any noticeable effect, everyone has their limit though.
...but how long is too long? I don't believe just because you're happen to be a good schooled boxer that you will most likely be fine. You will get hit LOTS of time during your career whether you have good boxing skills or not. Not just during the fight but all the 1000 of sparring rounds that you'll do.
