Schaefer, who promotes Mares, denies that his company is having any discussions with Top Rank. According to Schaefer, the only conversations taking place are between Top Rank and Frank Espinoza, who manages Mares.

Well this fight will never happen now. Public negotiations never ever work.

Dont see a problem. GBP put up money and TR split how they want and Nonito gets biggest payday of career in a career defining fight. Ill wait to see what Arum says if anything. GBP flexing them muscles!

So Schaefer wants to lose money just prove a point? Or have the Showtime head honchos lost all sight over what's going on with Showtime Boxing division? I would totally fire Espinoza (vice president, not Mares manager) over something like this if the bulk of the money is coming from there.

How is that not enough money?

If its a bluff then i cant see why its not in TR's best interest to call bluff.

Its a nice show or maneuver for Richard Schaeffer. But one thing we all know, is Arum isn't promoting to make money anymore. At least its not his primary objective. He will gladly make less money, to be the promoter of a big fight then just simply be cut a bigger check and be "shown up" in his eyes.

And at the same token Schaeffer with this move is doing basically the same thing. Offering up $3m just to TR/Donaire, plus paying his fighter, and the other expenses that go into the fight, looks like he's willing to lose some money on this go-round to look like "The Man."

3 million being too low is a debateable question but I bet thats more than what Arum is offering. Shafers not dumb. Hes probably in constant contact with Mares' manager and knows everything he and Arum are talking about.

Bob Arum is lucky it's not the early 50s anymore. The way he identifies the best way to make money - like Mayweather/Pacquaio and so many fights before or after - and then does everything he can to avoid making it; well, let's just say Joe McCarthy might think he was some kind of communist.
