Comments Thread For: Dzinziruk-Vera: Sergiy is Looking To Impress on ESPN

Southpaw middleweight contender Sergiy Dzinziruk is preparing for his January 25th contest against hardnosed Texan Brian Vera on a Banner Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions promoted edition of ESPN 2's Friday Night Fights. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds at the middleweight limit and will be televised live from the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. A win over the gritty Vera could mean big things for Dzinziruk as he looks to put himself in position for a world title opportunity.

Gonzalez couldn't even make the middleweight limit at the weigh in.

Dzinziruk looked a little sluggish against Gonzalez but that might have had more to do with the weight. who knows

if Dzinziruk is in top form he should win this one pretty easy. Vera will try but he can he controlled with a stiff jab. I can't see Dzinziruk being drawn into a brawl and that's the only way I see Vera winning.

Lulz he came in at 169lbs and weighed 178lbs in the ring if i remember. Dzinziruk is a 37 year old career 154lb guy and was giving up almost 20lbs in the ring.

I hop Vera wins this. Hes a humble, hard working dude in the division that comes to fight.

Upsets over Lee and Mora x2. Lets go Vera!

                  Harsh luck.

HBO promised him another HBO date if he went up to 160 and fought Martinez. When it came time for him to fight again, HBO said "Uhhh we know we promised you a return date, but we don't want to spend any of this year's budget on you. Wait till next year.

He got injured training for his next fight, and since HBO had him sitting so long already, the sanctioning body went ahead and stripped him of his title.

Dzinziruk is better than he gets credit for, he's just not very exciting.
