Barker took the Martinez fight. Why wouldnt he try and win a world title against GGG? Its not like he (Barker) has a world title of his own he can hide behind and make a few good paydays fighting scrubs. He's been injury prone, probably doesnt have that many training camps left in him. If he wants to become a world champ which im pretty sure he does he'll take the fight if he's offered it

Right before Barker got injured, he was close signing up to fight Dmitry Pirog, who's also high risk/low reward, because he had a world title. Now that Golovkin has one too, why wouldn't he?

Didn't know that, but we'll see if the Lee fight isn't made.
GGG said he wants 5 fights this year, I don't see why they can't fight this year.
I think he'd only want to fight him if it was on HBO though.

I respect Barker's honesty where he says "if there's anyone you were going to swerve it would be him" but says he is willing and sounds genuine. I hope it gets made as it would be great for both fighters. Barker was in talks with Pirog before he injured his hip and needed to pull out.

It'll be up to one of the Brits so fight him. Nobody else seems to be jumping through hoops to fight him.

That said, Barker is right to target the Lee fight because that make him more cash and Pirog/Golovkin will still be there afterwards.

We can't say Barker is ducking someone when there haven't even been any negotiations yet. I'd like to see Barker take on Lee and then fight Pirog or GGG at some point in the summer.

Darren Barker hopes to land a fight against Andy Lee and would even travel to Ireland for the middleweight clash. Barker marked his return with an impressive stoppage win over Kerry Hope in December and will fight again on the 'London's Finest' bill at Wembley Arena on the 9th of March.

The Barnet man had hoped to face Lee, but the Irishman will instead fight Anthony Fitzgerald on the undercard of the Carl Frampton-Kiko Martinez card in Belfast. Barker remains hopeful he can battle Lee later this year and would travel to his rival's home country to make the bout happen.

Would really love to see Barker fight Peter Quillin,very winnable fight in fact I think Darren would give Kid chocolate a boxing lesson and expose him as the hype job he really is.Daniel Geale is also another paper champion and winnable fight,I really do think Barker deserves to win a world title but those two guys I named are probably his only chance.

Triple G and Pirog are very tough fights but I doubt Barker would blink twice if the opportunities arose.

I think Golovkin vs Barker is the perfect fight.

Golovkin wants Martinez that's pretty clear, if he were to fight Barker and beat him in better fashion it would make a fight with Martinez more marketable. the only risk is if he doesn't look as good or happens to lose.

for Barker it puts him right back in the mix if he were to beat Golovkin. he'd be champion and it would make a showdown with Macklin huge. maybe even a rematch with Martinez.


style wise it's a good fight. Golovkin's pressure vs Barker's textbook boxing ability. Barker did break Martinez's nose, he's got a good defense and short crisp counters. I don't think Barker would be afraid to stand toe to toe with Golovkin. I see a great fight, it's not like Barker is chinny because Martinez busted his ear drum and that's why he went down.

It'll be hard for any of the second tier guys to get a fight with Martinez just because Martinez is planning to retire in a few more fights.

we know Martinez wants big money fights, PPV fights. that's Chavez, Mayweather and Alvarez.

Chavez will probably happen, Mayweather might happen and I highly doubt Martinez will get a shot at Canelo. if none of those fights occurs then Martinez will be forced to take on the GGGs of the world.
