London-born, Liverpool-based light-heavyweight contender Courtney Fry posted a hard fought win over the previously undefeated Matty Clarkson on a Coldwell Boxing bill in October to ensure he went into 2013 on a run of five victories. Fry last lost in October 2009, an eighth-round TKO to current WBO titlist Nathan Cleverly, and the six-threes decision win over Clarkson at Manchester’s Bowlers Exhibition Centre was made all the sweeter by virtue of the fact that Clarkson, now 8-1-2 (1), was the home fighter.
