Comments Thread For: Arum Rips Hopkins on HBO, Malignaggi-Mosley on SHO

NEW YORK — Bob Arum appreciates that HBO Sports executives saw the value in televising the “Boxing After Dark” tripleheader the premium-cable network will televise Saturday night from The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Arum’s promotional company, Top Rank Inc., has stakes in two of the three fights and Arum believes at least one of his fighters, undefeated featherweight contender Mikey Garcia, can become a star if he overcomes Orlando Salido in their 12-round fight for Salido’s WBO title. Not surprisingly, working with HBO on this card didn’t prevent the 81-year-old, combustible promoter from vehemently voicing his displeasure with another fight the network will televise — Bernard Hopkins versus Tavoris Cloud.

Hate to say it but the old man has a point. HBO is wasting valuable resources on 2 fights that nobody is interested in.

lmao and pac - mosley did? I'm pretty sure arum knew mosley wasn't planning on coming to fight yet it was heavily promoted

talking about overmatched opponents what gave him the incentive to sell chavez jr-manfredo to hbo? who wanted to see bradley-cassamayor?

hbo has the opportunity to televise a historic event if hopkins beats cloud...the world might never see a 48 year old win a world championship ever again...that's their reason

the only valid point he made was malignaggi-mosley being inexcusable, but it's hard to disagree with this

Hopkins deserves to be on hbo imo, but malignaggi vs mosley is a waste of time i got malignaggi stopping mosley in round 1 by brutal ko sending mosley out the ring and into the front row

Agree with the last statement... look at him ripping Mosley though...wasn't that long ago Mosley gave you a boner for Pac.
As for Hopkins/Could...they probably think people will tune in to see history made... again.
If it's PPV... Arum's right, nobody would pay for that

Hopkins still pops ratings. His fights with Pascal and the Dawson rematch were all STRONG relative to the times. That's why he's on. He's a living legend among fight fans and he's trying something crazy again.

SO basically Bob is mad that he can't get the dates that he wants. Serves him right for all the BS with manny avoiding floyd, the gamboa juanma BS, and all the inhouse fights that amounted to glorified sparring sessions.

Dont get mad when other promoters do the same thing you did.

Bob Arum is such a piece of ****. This is coming from a promoter who for 3 years prevented his cash cow Pac from making 60-100 million dollars in a ultimate mega fight that would've broke all records. Instead he puts him in war after war which resulted in him getting ktfo !!! Bhop Cloud will make an interesting fight because Cloud brings the action. As for him bashing Mosley, what a ****in hypocrite. He wasn't saying this **** when Pac was fighting Mosley. Wasn't he jocking Mosley then??? This guy is too much.

Arum is slowly starting to find his place in boxing being less relavent with each show he puts on, IMO.

He has 1 big fight to make (Pac JMM V) and 1 fighter with superstar potential.

Other than that what does he really have?
