What gets me about this is that people will always find a way to distance themselves from other people. It's not enough that both these guys share Mexican ancestry; but because one was born in the country and the other wasn't, there's a distinction. Even that's not enough. Then comes the question of what part of the country they're from. It just never ends. SMH

Exactly. It has nothing to do with where you are from, it has to do with the fighter as a person, desire, physical abilities, trainers and so forth.

I dont know why people get bent out of shape over this, its what makes sports. Football/basketball/baseball do the same thing but now replace race with city/state/ but some how its okay when it applied that way but when it applied to boxing it some evil thing lol same thing just a different form.

Mikey has greater power, fights smarter, and gets hit less.

I'll give Mikey the edge in power, but the reality is he's been in against much softer competition. Believe me, Mikey is going to have his work cut out for him when he gets in the ring with Salido. Garcia had better be ready to loosen up a bit because that's what it will take.

I give Mikey a shot because he does show promise, he does fight well and he's got good power. And Salido has really been in some wars. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the kid gets schooled by Orlando - who has beaten Guerrero and TKO'd JuanMa twice in his own country. Garcia is no Yuri Gamboa.

What I'm ultimately saying is this: this is the fight that tells us what we need to know about M. Garcia. I can't very well go into this fight favoring a relatively unproven fighter against a guy who has underrated ring IQ and tremendous heart, and who has been in wars. He's got the experience on his side.

Nice post man I agree. I also think there is something to be said about Mikey being trained by his extremely experienced brother. I definitely think Robert gives him a big advantage in this fight. All the stuff we are saying about Mikey being untested and Salido being a solid, experienced guy Robert has no doubt thought about and warned Mikey about. Especially since they are brothers Robert can tell Mikey he better watch his @ss in a way he can't tell his other fighters.

I wonder how Mikey got busted up on the chin... He musta had some big sparring partners. Can't fxcking wait!

Mexicans are proud people my man, we view Mexican-Americans as Americans really. I know it's well, probably wrong to do, but it's just a mentality that most of us are taught and it sticks with us.

I don't view Mikey as a Mexican, but as an American (after all, he was born and raised over there), and I'm rooting for Salido.

I already knew and understood the whole "you're not Mexican unless you were born in Mexico" mentality. It is what it is. Nothing I can say can change it, that's for sure. But you inadvertently pointed out something very insightful: hate is taught. I know you don't actually "hate" Mikey, but you'll root against him merely for the fact that there's a "true" Mexican fighting him, and that's simply how you were raised. People will even draw lines between what towns these guys are from. Like I said before, people (and I mean everyone) will always seek ways to oppose each other.
