question-
what was it like to lose to Sumbu Kalambay, the guy michael nunn koed in
round 1 ? do you think you won that fight ?
answer-
Sumbu Kalambay was an elite boxer who got by Herol Graham and Michael McCallum when they were still undefeated. But he was a spoiler - type and I had to pack my bags and go to Italy for that fight. He was a spoiler and did not like to get stuck in or mix it. I believe the aggressor should win the round but obviously in Italy or Germany they don't see it like that. I lost a majority decision and it all depends on whether you judge a fight on aggression and will or spoiling tactics.
question-
If you could go back to the Mike McCallum fight what would you of done differently?
answer-
There's not much I could of done differently, he was the best all - arounder I ever shared a ring with and the best technician with the best left hook and best body punching. I was a novice pro and obviously very nervous and anxious with this being a world title fight so soon. I couldn't help the fact that I was nervous and froze early on. There's a reason why I pushed for the rematch and there's a reason why Michael wouldn't give me a rematch, both he and I know that if I got out of the blocks faster and had over 20 fights experience then I could of won. I believe I would of won a rematch with him, I wouldn't of wanted the rematch otherwise. I would of started faster and set a high tempo that the older pro wouldn't keep it up with.
question-
You were always a guy who pushed the envelope and and came to fight. James Toney LOVES fighters who come to him looking for a slugfest. How would you deal with his pretty clear advantages in handspeed, defense, and arsenal of counterpunches. How would you go about attacking James if he was on top of his game (I'm talking about the James Toney who dissected Iran Barkley and Prince Charles Williams).
answer-
I would work from the chest down early on so that's he's sapped for later on, Dave Tiberi almost stopped him with body shots. I'd tie him up, hit him with uppercuts with both hands. I would throw him off and do my stuff. Drake Thadzi beat him who I always got the better of inside - fighting in the gym. Merqui Sosa pressured him into a split decision and he wasn't up to much. I think James Toney was a little over rated.
sorry and here are the other threads-
