steve collins answers some more questions

Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

    question-
Who were your hero's, Mr Collins? And what was your dream?

    answer-
Marvellous Marvin Hagler was my hero, that's why I crossed the pond to be trained by his trainers ( Goody and Pat Petronelli ). My other hero was the great Rocky Marciano and my dream was to become heavyweight champion of the world or world champion which I fulfilled.

    question-
Can steve Collins explain why he deprived Joe Calzaghe his own scalp. He was supposed to fight Calzaghe and pulled out at last minute. from what i hear Howard Eastman knock him silly in sparring and he decided to call it quits

That is one of the reason people don't say of collins would have beaten Jones ?

As for the Benn fight let put it this way do u think Collins would have stopped McCllean ?

I hope u don't think I am rude of what i am asking if so change the wording around please I am very cuirous

and does he think Calzaghe will beat Lacy (the only fighter looking to entertain fans at super-middleweight)`

    answer-
I couldn't get myself motivated for Joe Calzaghe. At that time Joe Calzaghe was a nothing name with a dangerous punch and so the fight didn't make any sense. Getting closer and closer to the fight I had no enthusiasm for it and common sense told me to pull out. I was in a lose - lose situation, I beat him and it's just another win against a unproven contender or I could lose through not having been able to get up for training enough. I wanted Roy Jones, but Roy Jones was very elusive in avoiding me for so many years. I made it clear that Roy Jones was the only fight I would come out of retirement for.

I sparred with Howard Eastman in 1999 when I was going to come back and look at fighting Roy Jones for his retirement fight. I collapsed in front of Howard after a couple of minutes light sparring, it was a warning sign and hung up my gloves for good.

I don't think Calzaghe is the fighter he was, but he's a class above Jeff Lacy and I'd be suprised if he lost.

    question-
Ask him if he thinks Calzaghe is over-rated or has wasted his career?

    answer-
Joe Calzaghe is not over rated. He hasn't wasted his career because it's through no fault of his own that there have been no fights out there for him. He doesn't have Eubank and Benn in their primes like I had, Roy Jones is still around but it's through no fault of Joe's that that fight didn't happen.

    question-
Id like to know, how he thinks Benn or Eubank would of fared against Mccallum?

    answer-
Eubank's weakness to body shots would come into play here.

Nigel Benn could of beaten Michael McCallum because I'm sure they would of got into exchanges.

heh...I still would like to see the answer to how he'd go about attacking James Toney.

Ask him if he was there when Roy Jones lost to John Reid at 156 (who Collins beat earlier that year at 165) in the amateurs, and if thats why he believes he would of beaten Jones Jr in the pro's (lol).
