He was gonna fight Abril, but Abril is fighting Bogere. He was gonna fight Burns, but Burns is on some bullshit right now. Linares is still rebuilding, so that fight definitely wouldn't make sense. I do agree that he should've fought Vasquez instead, but I've heard a rumor that there were negotiations that fell through. I'm alright with Rees tbh, and hopefully Broner fights the winner of Abril/Bogere next.Comment

Money has everything to do with fighting the different champions. Any champion that fights Broner is going want a large sum of money to do it. Its a large risk fight and noone wants to put their title on the line against a fighter like that without it really being worth it. In order to keep Broner busy, they probably decided to go with someone that would be easier to make the fight with. This way they have more time to negotiate a bigger fight for May.Comment

SMH. **sighs**. Let's see.....
Ring Magazine Lightweight Ratings:
1. Adrien Broner
2. Miguel Vasquez - Option #1 Was offered the fight in November but turned down $350,000. Don't know what the issue is now though.
3. Antonio DeMarco - Already beat him
4. Ricky Burns - Turned the fight down and his promoter just wants to milk him
5. Richard Abril - Vacant title clash with Bogere is scheduled
6. Gavin Rees - Option #2
7. Sharif Bogere - Vacant title clash with Abril is scheduled
8. Kevin Mitchell - Just got ran through by Ricky Burns
9. Rey Beltran - Option #3
10. Daniel Estrada - Option #4
So we got Miguel Vasquez, Gavin Rees, Ray Beltran and Daniel Estrada as possible ranked opponents. What's the problem?Comment

This is my line of thinking as well. Broner was going to be the draw in any of the fights mentioned by anyone so far. He'll look unbeatable again to the general public and that'll probably set up a money fight for May. Its a management move IMO. Not a bad one, but shouldn't be a headlining premium cable fight. (actually thats debatable with some of the garbage fights they put on premium channels.) Last year was a good year for premium cable fights though, hopefully they'll improve on that, and not revert to years back where it was always Superstar vs Bum to build future PPV fights.Money has everything to do with fighting the different champions.
