I've heard that myself but I'm not sure how true it actually is. I can tell you that after living in and travelling around Australia for a long time, I've come across a lot of indigenous people with alcohol problems and a tendency to get smashed off very little alcohol, so there might be something in it. I've also come across many with a fondness for sniffing glue or petrol. I'm not getting on my high horse here, each to their own, but it did seem more prevalent than in other cultures within Australia. I think it has as much to do with social deprivation and a history of being shat on as anything else. No offence intended here, not generalizing... just referring to some of the individuals I've met.
