Does skin colour affect cuts?

no. when whites cut its perceived as worse because the blood really "pops" against their light skin while its less visible on blacks. swelling also looks worse on whites for the same reason, when they mark up it shows more clearly.

it really has more to do with styles. think of all these fighters who cut easily, how many of them were great defensively? thats really what it comes down to. when they get cut once they get scar tissue and are more vulnerable to get cut in the same place again so it gets worse and worse.

there is a diffrence from fighter to fighter before they ever been cut though, but it has nothing to do with race. williams, judah and kelley were all bleeders just to name a few black fighters who cut easily in recent years.

Nothing to do with skin colour, but the facial features do make races more susceptible to injuries.

Yeah you're right.

I still hold my opinion that whites cut a little easier and no-one getting sad is going to change it.

To the extent that this could be true, it would most likely have more to do with things like bone structure than anything else. Personally, I don't know if there is any truth to it or not.

i have no real evidence outside of my experience with this sport, which frankly is ample.


based on the testimony of experts and my own experience i can say that i believe fully that skin color has an effect on one's predisposition toward being cut.


there are other factors as well. how much weight is lost and then put on between fights, the diet and how much [alcohol] a fighter drinks, the history of cutting, and most important, the bone structure of a fighter's face and eyebrows all have an effect on how easily a fighter cuts.

Whites have dryer skin. Moist skin would be a liability in a freezing cold climate. Dry skin is more susceptible to cutting.

Top of ur head how many fights can you think of in recent history that were stopped on cuts and how many were black, brown or white?

Khan vs Molina comes to mind, he is very light, although Khan seems to open up all his opponents and give them nasty cuts

I wouldn't exactly place it on skin color, there are many white skinned mexican/hispanic fighters who barely get a scratch during their fights. It's all about the genes if you ask me.

White people cut easier, skin is probably less tough and less thick as they need to absorb the same amount of sunlight as black but, with less sun. So overtime after people migrated out of Africa their skin decolourised and got less resistant to the sun and therefore less tough and less resistant to contact?

I don't know the actual reason but that sounds possible to me.

White skin shows cuts and blood more. Also, there is a skin disease some refer to as keloid skin, it causes hyper platelet activity around the most minor of cuts. Most black people carry this disease although it is not as evident in most. Some black ppl scar from the smallest of abrasions and form disgusting scabs over large sections of their face from something as small as a shaving cut.

this just made me think of the lakers player Metta World Peace. he actually suffered a cut on his arm during a game a few days ago and I saw a close up of his arm yesterday and it looked like a huge infected keloid scar, and it was raised.
