Comments Thread For: Gonzalez Aims To Secure Ricky Burns in The Summer

Undefeated Jose 'Chelo' González (21-0, 16KOs) is one step away from getting a shot at the WBO lightweight title held by British star Ricky Burns (35-2, 10KOs), who captured the WBO's championship at 130 with a dominating win over Gonzalez's countryman Roman 'Rocky' Martinez. Gonzalez, the top ranked contender, is hoping to secure the fight in the summer. Gonzalez returns on February 2nd in Bayamon against an opponent to be announced.

“Undefeated” Gonzalez hasn’t fought any ranked fighters and he’s this close to a title shot? I was hoping to see Ricky Burns take on Broner, since Burns is the only one at lightweight worthy enough before Broner moves up to junior welterweight.

I was thinking the same thing. He has not really earned a title shot with the opponents he has been facing. Throw him in an eliminator with someone in the top 10 atleast.

I Totally agree with U, but that's what boxing has become nowadays.. I've seen "Chelo" fight a bunch of times & he's shown to be a good fighter, but he still should be tested against better opposition before fighting for a world title.. Good example is Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, just look at his record & U will wonder ¿How the hell did he earn a title shot? When to this date he hasn't fought ANYONE Worthy to earn a title shot!!! & even worst, just look at who he beat to get the title, Mathew Hatton who like a bunch of Canelo's opponents was campaigning at a lower weight class & WASN'T even ranked among the top 10 of 15!!! ...

Good luck with getting that title shot against Ricky Burns. He wants to get paid £400,000.

He dont deserve a title shot. No top 10 contender or a recognized name in his resume. And after what he did on JML/Salido last fight, he shouldnt been in the ring.
