I hate to quote something from another site but maxboxing had it right. It is a real shame and a damn crime that HBO would only be willing to shell out less than 1.7 million for a Marquez Pacquiao fight when they are willing to pay Mayweather alone, over 2 million to fight bruseles. Mayweather who hasnt really attracted a crowd in years. In his last fight he couldnt even fill the little stadium it was an irony that it happened to be one of his most exciting fights to date. And of course he got paid like 3 million.

For Marquez vs Pacquiao one thing is a for sure thing, the arena was going to sell out, and more people would have tuned in then are gonna tune for Mayweather against someone no knows. (except us ESPN watching folks.)

He didn't ask Salido to fork that much dough and I'm sure Salido wanted those belts as much as Manny or any challenger does. The simple fact is that he is in no position to demand such a preposterous sum, with or without those belts. It's the rep that brings in the money in this day and age and not the title - sad but true.

Marquez was a nobody fighting under card type opponents all his career and none of the legitimate elite like Manny before they clashed and it's because of that ****** draw - which IMHO opinion Pac deserved to win - that he's sharing some of the limelight right now. Still he doesn't deserve crap and is back to fighting patsies like he normally does because of this latest attempt to duck Manny. Manny earned his share of the purse and is the one being shortchanged, not little miss prima donna Marquez, yet Manny would've taken whatever was offered him just to prove he was the real champ.

well be honest, we all knew Salido wasnt gonna be that big a task. pac is diff and i would ask for money like that too if i was fighting. i woulve gone for 1 mil but not 1.5. only he and god know why he demanded so much. me? i dont think hes scared of pac. just scared that if he does lose, he wont get many big fights not to mention, dream bouts with morales and barrera so hes asking for a big payday. i thought he shouldve gotten it tho since he showed that pac couldnt finish him. hes got heart and would probably make mab and em look foolish at times.

that's the point, our poor country has only one great boxing sensation time to time, so what the heck? give him the sky, he is the only one who stands up among the best and definitely deserves the credit. and take a look. it only took one manny pacquiao to take the world into a frenzy, he became a bigger name than the 3 M's and i suppose every mexican in the world wants to fight, except for marquez the chicken ****.

In fairness to JMM, he used to be ignored by big fighters in his division because of the high risk, low return he poses . It's just sad that he blew probably the only chance to raise his marketability. He probably deserves more than what Arum offered him but with the way he fights, he'll never dictate the market.

in fairness to manny, he actually "gave" JMM the chance to shine, roach didn't want the fight to happen, nazario din't want the fight to happen, but the warrior in manny told them otherwise. manny was a hot commodity entering their fight so i think it was still manny who drew people and fight fans to watch it. but regarding the purse, i think it wasn't fair for marquez to be given such an offer. arum is disgusting, he should have at least offered the same amount to JMM, following a split draw in their last match...
