yup. he's still a raw talent. judging from his last fight, he has to polish his defense.

probably 5+ fights will do some decent exposure before going on to the big fights

I have proposed this in another thread, and I can't help but repeat. Rey, I think, should not, as yet, look in the direction of Rafa. Instead, here's something he and his crew should consider seriously:

Out in Hamburgh, Germany lives an Eukranian named Wladimir Sirodenko, who holds the WBA Bantamweight title after having disposed of Julio Zarate in February '05, in a box-off for the vacant throne. The guy has a record of 18-0, with only 6 stoppages. Of those 6, only two were by KO, and his KO victims were someone named Imrich Parlagi, who had won only two of his previous 66 fights, and a certain Stefan Berza who had not won any of his previous 11 dates.

After two or three preparatories, Rey can meet Sirodenko. And, if he wrests the title, he can go up against Rafa with much better negotiating credentials.

Here's one catch though: Sirodenko hates to use his passport. He hasn't fought outside his adopted homeland, except twice-- in Poland and in his native Ukraine.

It seems that Rey may have to fly to Germany to meet him, and, in recent years, Germany, by reputation, is not exactly the type of place one would relish going to for a championship tussle with a German hero-- adopted or not.

Warning: Sirodenko is far from a patsy. Although he lacks the power, he knows a few tricks to win.

There's a big difference, Vargas is a US Olympian. Of course he's gonna get hyped up, especially since a lot of his fights were televised on American networks. Bautista is not American, and his weight class is not of great interest to many boxing fans. Boom2x is only hyped up in the Philippines and in these forums(by Pinoys). In the US, he is still a virtual unknown.
