Comments Thread For: Maloney Praises David Price For His Holiday Training

FRANK MALONEY says David Price and his trainer Franny Smith are two of the best professionals he has ever worked with.

The British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion faces world ranked American Tony Thompson at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday 23rd February 2012 in a 12 round international heavyweight contest.

Despite training for four 12 round contests last year, 6ft 8in Price (15-0) took just a week off following November’s win over Matt Skelton.

Maloney said: “David and Franny are a dream team and stayed in the gym over Christmas and New Year.

      Maloney give me a break

I don't want to disrespect Price as he is a prospect but what happened to the days when boxers where fighting regularly Price only had 4 fights last year and less than a round against Audley Harrison so very inactive back in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's fighters where fighting 8 - 12 fights per year on average sonmetinmes more - actually when Mike Tyson won the heavyweight world champion back in 1986 he won the title with less than 2 years as a pro and that was his 28th fight if you look at his record he had d 3 fights in a month at some stage - boxers today are made too much of too early so Maloney wanting to re-schedule the fight would of given Price 3-4 months between fights - wake up Maloney todays boxers are soft.

Have a bit of a hard time thinking Thompson is such a huge step up as people go on about. What did Thompson do, beat Chazz Witherspoon? No disrespect, but Thompson is frankly old and shot, way past it. Why does Price keep figthing old men.
