Cotto was ringside at Mayweather Gatti(Hatton was also)
at about .27 on the video you hear Jim Lampley saying "Cotto may want the winner of the fight(thats the reason he was there), but if its Mayweather he might not want that..."
Cotto and Hatton witnessed first hand the a$$ whipping of a lifetime that Mayweather put on Gatti. That was an a$$ whipping for the history books. click Part 1 and look at the whole fight.
They wanted no parts of that version of Mayweather.

Secondly, I doubt either were too worried about what Mayweather did to a punch-drunk, past-prime Gatti.

Cotto fought like the pre-Mosley, aggressive hunter he used to be against Mayweather. He doesn't need Diaz to fight that way in his prime, that's how he fought most the time anyway.

I re-watched this fight recently and scored it 10-2 Mayweather.
It wasn't as competitive as I thought it was originally when I watched live. Cotto made Mayweather's connects go down, but Floyd opened his hands up a bit more than he did vs guys like DLH. He made his adjustments and continued to land the clean effective blows round by round.
That was the most determined and studious Cotto would ever be vs Mayweather and he couldn't really do much. At 140 Floyd probably stops Cotto IMO. 147 wide UD maybe late stoppage if Floyd steps on the gas.
