Both fights were great but sloppy as hell, especially Gatti-Ward. Gimme any of Marquez-Vazquez fights anyday.

      Gatti-Ward I, AMAZING.

      Rounds 9 & 10 tell the tale.

Hell to the ***ing no. Honestly, and I know I'm alone on this but Rios V Alvardo was only a so so fight to me. I didn't enjoy the fight that much and don't really care for the rematch. Alvardo isn't very good and Rios doesn't seem to be much better than him. It was just two dudes with very little defense or athletic ability throwing wild punches. Maybe it is because it was fought at such close quarters instead of at a distance but when I watched the fight I liked it but I didn't feel like it was great, needed a rematch, or a classic. It certainly isn't no Gatti/Ward.

How is that different from Gatti vs. Ward?

It was a great fight, don't get me wrong. Certainly up there as a FOTY, but up against the greatest fights, it really doesn't do it for me at all.

They both battled it out evenly, without anything surprising happening.

To me, it just didn't have the surprise, the ups and downs, the back and forth action from one guy to the next that Gatti/Ward had.

It seemed like Alvarado kind of kept his neck out in front just the tiniest bit until he got KTFO.
Spot on. It was obviously a great action fight, but if you felt the same way watching that fight as Gatti/Ward I you need to go get checked out.

Ya but Gatti-Ward is different from say Bowe-Holyfield I.

Bowe-Holyfield you know you are watching two ATG TALENTS fighting in there. Their skills were elite of the elite.. They were GREAT fighters.

Gatti-Ward you know you were watching two C Level fighters with A Level hearts... obviously still impressive, but the fact that they were C Level is always a downer.... since any A Level fighter can dominate them.

Bowe-Holyfield is like two of the best heavyweights in the world fighting and killing each other.

Ward retired after the 3d fight, in which they hardly threw punches. Ward had double vision from the first fight.

They got very ordinary pay for their first fight, but a million each for the second, which was a real anticlimax. Don't know about the 3rd, but the million was a far, far more than Ward had made in his whole career of nearly 20 years. I feel that his Emanual Augustus fight was far better, more skill and at least as much action, rather than the cowboy movie 1st fight.

You're not alone on that at all. Alvarado is a pretty average fighter. His opposition before Rios was very weak. There was just such a notable absent of class in that fight it seems almost offensive for people to speak about it as an all time great fight. Look at the technical skills of Castillo-Corrales for example. That's high volume with supreme skill. If these guys fight 5 times I would bet Rios would win all 5.
