In the US American football is king. No other sport even comes close.

For me personally football and boxing are tied for #1. I also enjoy basketball.

As far as global sports revenue by league it is:

1.) NFL ($984 million in overall profit)
2.) EPL ($513 million in overall profit)
3.) MLB ($496 million in overall profit)
4.) Formula One ($435 million in overall profit)
5.) NBA ($207 million in overall profit)

There are maybe two dozen >$1 million USD purses in boxing a year and as a whole boxing sn't making anywhere near 1 billion in profit.

No, boxing is not more popular than the NFL on a global level.

Even in countries where it is popular it is still second or third fiddle. Basketball > Boxing in Philippines. Association Football > Boxing in Mexico.

Boxing is nothing in America, especially these days ... Football easily trumps it

World wide is a different story ... Boxing should be more popular globally with more followers and participants

The Tyson and Ali eras and the earlier eras with Joe Louis should have been more popular than football

                      NBA behind F1?

Doubt it ... even if F1 is ahead of the NBA its not more popular than the sport of basketball itself

Basketball is arguably #2 only trailing soccer on a global scene.
