If Canelo Alvarez Ducks Austin Trout, Who Should He Face Next?

WBC 154 lbs. champion canelo alvarez will be back may 4 and it won’t be against mayweather. canelo said he wants mayweather but if he couldn’t get him then he’ll consider facing trout. the other option is the beaten and exposed cotto.

it's obvious GBP is not willing to take risks with canelo to match him up against legit competition, therefore the trout match up is almost unlikely. canelo may be a champion but his trinket is not worth anything, being champion means defending the belt against the best and canelo is doing the opposite.

for canelo to redeem his himself from being the most overrated boxer today, he should face/defeat any of the following.

sergio martinez - a much much better version of trout, he's a free agent which makes it more workable with GBP.

erislandy lara - a GBP fighter, ranked within the top 3 by the WBC

vanes martirosyan - a TP fighter, ranked within the top 3 by the WBC

james kirkland - a GBP fighter, ranked first by the WBA and third by the WBO

keith thurman - a GBP fighter, at 24 yrs old and undefeated, he's the biggest prospect right now in the ww & sww division.

like many fans out there, i am hoping GBP doesn't give canelo another cab driver to fight.

Heck Demetrius Andrade (another 24-year old undefeated prospect) would be a step up.

I want to see him fight a live body who is a natural 154-pounder at least.

Sergio Martinez, but that won't happen as Sexy Serg will give him fits.

Alvarez is next for Floyd in fall after Floyd beats Guerrero
GB isn't gonna endanger that with a serious fight for him
by all rights, he should fight Lara
Vanes fight was an eliminator, draw outcome, Vanes is out
Lara is the last contender standing, so fight the guy
no way in hell it actually happens though

He should just fight Bundrage already. If he insists on taking the easy road to Mayweather, it's a winnable and semi-credible fight for him.

As much as I wanted him to fight Lara, that was a pittyfull effort against Vanes knowing what was on the line for him. Canelo could say nobody wants to see Lara based on that performance and he wouldn't exactly be lying. Lara made himself easy to duck. It's a damn shame.

Kinda sad that K9 would be a step up in competition for Canelo.
Trout is really the only reasonable choice, but they are not going to risk him losing when he has Mayweather next. I think he fights Angulo on 5 de Mayo.

Lara/Vanes are supposed to have a rematch, Kirkland is outta the loop, Martinez has a fight coming up, and Thurman is still an unknown. If not Trout, then he should fight Molina. Molina has a fight in the first week of February, so he could probably make the May 4th date.

didn't vanes recently talk about wanting to move down to 147 to fight bradley tho? lol..wouldn't mind at all seeing canelo vs lara if he ends up ducking trout.

If Canelo fight Lara and win I will give him all the credit in the world since I believe that lara is the most skillful fighter @ 154...but that won't happen..going from nothing to a top 3 is a big jump...
