Comments Thread For: Coal in Cunningham’s Stocking: Post-Fight Report Card

For boxing, it was a successful return to network television on NBC.

    Then the scores were read.

Two-time former Cruiserweight titlist Steve Cunningham appeared to have done enough to secure revenge in his long awaited rematch with former Light Heavyweight titlist and Cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek. Two of the three judges disagreed.

Where they disagreed is as worth scrutiny as that they disagreed at all.

While much was made of the mis-read scores at the bouts conclusion, that was much ado about nothing. Michael Buffer isn’t perfect. He had a moment when he announced a draw. That the final score read aloud, ultimately 115-113 from Debra Barnes for Adamek, became the focus meant what seems the worst score of the night got a little off the hook. [Click Here To Read More]

I agree that Pulev beats either of them. But Cunningham at least deserved that payday.

Cliff Rold always does pre- and post- fight report cards. Why are you surprised?

Chambers Adamek was an outright robbery. Cunningham Adamek was a case of the superior fighter playing it too safe and allowing a close fight to coast to the cards. I thought Cunningham won but he wasn't active or aggressive enough to seriously claim that he got cheated. Chambers, however easily outboxed and out fought Adamek with one hand, while making him look like he didn't belong in the same ring with him.

A ONE POINT or two point fight is not a robbery, people. I scored it 7-5 in rds to Adamek or a draw since there were several close rounds. When there is alot of close rounds, you're the champion being the aggressor, close rounds usually goes to that fighter. Cunningham didn't do enough to TAKE the title away. He did alot of running in this rematch than the 1st meeting between the two. Running around w/ a high guard w/ the Champion chasing you down. Literally chased around the corners of the ring without throwing anything to keep him off sometimes.
