Tony Thornton's opinion on Eubank/Toney (just to shut juyjuy up)

Thank you for noticing my career and writing to me. I thought Eu banks was a good fighter but not a great fighter by any means, He was kind of awkward and slippery with some good punching abilities but had zero classical boxing abilities. Eu banks may of been a great fighter in Europe of wherever but he was not a great fighter here in the States. He was more of a showman than a boxer, and the WBO needed him for them to stay on the radar and so they gave him star treatment which include gift decisions. I, as did many others including the reporters thought I won that fight with him. I can remember one of the judges being asked how he could score the 12th round of the fight for Eu banks when he actually turned his back at one point and ran. The judge responded by saying that was good defense. I had always heard about those kinds of decisions happening on foreign soil, but then I experienced it first hand. Having fought both of those guys back to back, I don't think Chris had enough workrate to beat James, James had better punch output and better technical punching abilities and even though James wasn't known for his consistency from fight to fight he was more consistent than Eu banks throughout a fight, and a much more reliable defense. Thanks.

James Toney would have probably beat Eubank, but Tony Thornton sounds a bit up himself to be honest.....

        Heres Eubanks opinion in 1993-
"On paper, its a even fight. But physically, its a mismatch. Toney is this short, soft, slow, static fighter who likes to get inside & slug it out. Hes good at what he does. But Im a better mover & evade more punches than him, Hes got a one-pac, Ive got a thirteen-pac.. He cant do anything with me. What can he do? He cant avoid my fast & rangy leads because hes too slow & short. He cant catch me with counters because Im too fast & evasive. Im too good of an outside fighter to get caught up in his traps. Toney is obviously a very good fighter, but stylistically he cant do anything with me & stylistically this match is a mismatch."

Eubank says JT refused 50/50 purse shares & demanded 60/40 or no fight, i think JT was ringside when Eubank fought Lindell Holmes. my opinion on the fight is that JT would steal the championship rounds & get the decision, Eubank would win the first half of the fight before Eubanks lack of stamina kicks in & JT finds his range. it would be a good, close fight, battle of textbook skill (JT) vs custom skill (CE), with textbook skill coming out on top in the end. sorry JuyJuy.

Eubank had a TERRIFIC stiff jab,a fight with Toney would 100% depend on whether Toney could read it to avoid it then counter because otherwise he would get grinded down.

He is more qualified than anyone to judge who would win between James and Eubank, seeing as he is the only guy who fought them both
