Before late 2012, I don't think Marquez ever displayed the sort of power that would trouble a prime Hatton at 140. He may have won on points but never would have stopped him. If a past prime Katsidis could go 9, a prime 140 Hatton could go 12 without a great deal of trouble.
This current version of Marquez has a decent shot at stopping him, that one punch power could prove significant.
Refereeing is key however, like Andre Ward if Hatton can get inside on any fighter it's difficult for them to get their shots off at full power.

Marquez has probably got the best uppercut in boxing and also like most Mexicans, a terrific left hook to the body, and doesn't need much room to pull either off so I can't imagine Ricky getting up close to him would worry Marquez much
They were talking about this after Mayweather-Marquez,but obviously Hatton wasn't interested in getting back in the ring at the time. Not a boxing ring, anyway.
Think Marquez would have had a very good chance at stopping Hatton at that point. Not the way Pacquiao did,but by gradually breaking him down and using his aggression against him.
