Angulo isn't in the top 10 anymore, he just spent seven months in prison and looked horrible against a bum welterweight in his last fight. Canelo should be facing Trout, Lara, Floyd, Mayweather, Molina, or Vanes. Instead, last year we got Mosley and Josesito.

Trout didn't prove much by beating past it Cotto
and Alvarez will get Floyd anyway, he doesn't have to go through Trout
if by some chance Floyd-Alvarez doesn't happen, Alvarez-Trout works
Alvarez would beat him in a fight that would probably suck

That's what they said about #4 ranked Ryan Rhodes. "Canelo's first real test". Then they were calling Cintron a good test for Canelo's age. I guess there's fake tests and real tests depending on who you talk to.
The RING only ranked Ryan Rhodes to hype up the Canelo fight, but of course you should already know that. Otherwise, give me Rhodes 5 best wins. I'll wait...

            Bum welterweight?

You mean that tough, gritty 20 year old with pretty good boxing skills?

That guy was no bum. Wouldn't be surprised if that kid turned out to be pretty good in a few years. He has a really good chin, decent boxing ability and nice stamina. Right now he looks under developed, but definitely not a bum.

But Canelo proved a lot by beating shot to pieces Mosley (who hadn't won a fight in 3 years) and the fringe light welter contender Josesito.

didn't say Alvarez has proven anything
just meant Trout isn't special just for beating Cotto
FWIW, definitely rate Alvarez higher than Trout
and picking Alvarez for sure if they ever do fight each other

wouldn't say bum, but he's being glorified for the beating he took. Props for being able to hit angulo and stop him at some points. He's really young and has room for improvement, after that fight though, I don't know how long his body will last.

You don't mean to tell me that was a good win for Angulo. Silva was and is a nobody, he came in with a 20-2-2 record, including knockout losses to Daniel Sandoval? and Armando Robles? and draws to Yoshihiro Kamegai? (his last fight) and Guillermo Arroyo?. The guy is a bum welterweight. The fact that he looked decent against Angulo is a testament to Angulo's deterioration after 7 months in confinement and over a year of inactivity, much like Kirkland in the Ishida fight.
