I think it was somewhat inevitable that he was going to get caught with that shot though. He had decided to fight aggressively, he didn't change his mind after he got knocked on his ass the first time, and he was always going to leave himself open to that sort of a counter at some point.
I think you're right in the sense that Marquez was taking an unsustainable amount of damage, and he needed the opening to come sooner rather than later. Had it not arrived within a couple of rounds, then it could well have been a ko victory in the other direction.
As others has pointed out, Marquez wasn't that sharp or quick on the night. If he had to adjust to his more traditional style, I have my doubts that he would have been able to.
