Has Canelo Alvarez earned the right to pick n choose fights?

When a fighter gets to the point in his career where he can pick n choose fights it's after he's a multi division champ and has been around for a while. Alvarez is the new kid on the block and has never been the lineal champ at any weight division, YET his marketing team and he feel like they have the right to pick n choose fights. He should have fought somebody else yet he fought Lopez a guy who was fighting at 140 2 fights prior. They mention his name after Trout beats Cotto and he walks out of the stadium.

Who does this guy and his team think he is?

He brings fans to the sport, so the simple answer is yes.

      No

He is the most protected fighter in the sport

His last fight was against Josiseto lopez for crying out loud

GBP is being extra careful matching him up after they failed horribly trying to turn Ortiz into a cashcow

Every fighter has the "right" to pick and choose their opponents but don't expect to get credit for those fights.

It's clear from some of the comments in this forum that Canelo's fans couldn't care less about who's across the ring from him, as long as he has a pulse. GBP might as well continue to match him with LWW's and WW's cuz the ones who pay to see him don't give a shit.
