Something about Velez I didn't like was, how he would jump on the ropes and showboat after every KD... I don't mind that after a win but during a KD? That's fkin lame. What if the guy came back and knocked your ass out? Then you would look like a moron. We'll see how he does vs Ponce.

I think if Dulorme and Del Valle can bounce back they have potential.

I'm not saying you have to watch the sport cause of your countrymen but like I said, it's always nice to have someone to root for from the same culture as you.

There's still plenty of time for Dulorme. Puerto Rico has a fine boxing tradition. Puerto Rican boxing will be ok.

La Bomba Gonzalez has potential. Velez seemed like he improved in the Sanchez fight, but he was fighting a bum afterall, so I'm not sure. Probably still sucks

I'm not giving up on Del Valle & Dulorme either. They still have tons of potential, a loss isn't the end if you don't want it to be.

Garcia is not a true Rican. I don't mind him repping his roots, but he will never be considered PR to me.

He doesn't know the culture or the history, has never lived here, and doesn't even know how to speak spanish.

He is an American of Puerto Rican descent, end of discussion.

Anyway, calm down people. Yes, we're going through a dry spell in Boxing right now, but we'll bounce back. Boxing has always been apart of our culture, there are always more Ricans entering boxing dreaming of being the next big thing. We'll be back just as strong.

Yeah I'm PR. Garcia wasn't even on my radar to be honest. I guess I don't have time to follow boxing as much as I would like to and learn about some of the younger guys that are out there until they have their "big shot."

I honestly thought he was Mexican until I saw the PR flag on his trunks during Morales I. Something about the name Garcia in boxing...

Anyways I do follow all boxers not just PR, but there is a special sense of pride when it comes to PR fighters.

Well those are what we call the casual fans, right? We have them from all different nationalities. Even in the US.

I hope you guys don't BET MONEY ON FIGHTS, most of you would be broke just placing BETS based on PRIDE
I'll answer this question with another question. If your parents are Cubans born in CUBA and they had you when they moved here what would you be? Cuban-American right? Danny is the same way. I think he's very limited but I like him, he has a lot of heart and chin. However, he's not Puerto Rican by any strectch of the imagination. He was BORN and RAISED here so he wouldn't be considered that. He may share PUerto Rican blood but his values and lifestyle are full American.

They are a bunch of prospects it is a matter of time that one will shine and come into the bigger picture.

Can't be nationalistic with the sports cause there are so many good fighters out there that can be supported

well my take on the Garcia thing is, I dont judge a person on where they were born and raised. That really isnt his fault. His family is Puerto Rican blood which makes him Puerto Rican. However, he was raised away from the culture and heritage and he as person never cared to learn about where his true roots are from which tend to push most of the Puerto Rican audience away. Its clear that if he choses to learn about it now is for his benefit $$$ and not because he truly wanted to.

Danny Garcia is not rican. Stop with that bullsht. Verdejo? Have you seen him fight? Let him have a few fights before creating new heroes and making us ricans look like complete mamones.

Do you guys even know Danny Garcia enough to comment on his "Puerto Ricanism"?

I know US born and raised Puerto Ricans that probably know more about PR history, culture and politics than most people on the island. Being PR is more than where you were born and raised or how much Spanish you speak (especially considering we are a bilingual culture, one or the other should suffice no?).

FYI, PR would not be as popular as it is without the huge diaspora that also represents the Puerto Rican culture all over the world. Plenty of Rican/American men and women taking care of business in many professions and all across the globe. Many of the men do not shave their legs and eyebrows, so maybe that disqualifies them as "real" PR, but so what.

Danny is American, and he should be proud of that. But he clearly acknowledges his family's roots. He is young. That appreciation can grow over time.
