  • Comments Thread For: BScene Staff Predictions: Austin Trout vs. Miguel Cotto

Miguel Cotto has never lost before at Madison Square Garden – or anywhere in New York.

Austin Trout has never fought before at Madison Square Garden – or anywhere in New York.

Both statements mean about as much as the fact that prior to November 24, Ricky Hatton was undefeated in the U.K.

The more being, you still have to fight it out in the ring.

Cotto (37-3, 30KO) attempts to start a fifth title reign in a career spanning three weight classes. The Puerto Rican superstar enters on the heels of a competitive points loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. this past May. The loss ended a 154 lb. title which lasted nearly two years, including his revenge 10th round stoppage win over Antonio Margarito at the Garden exactly 52 weeks ago.

Trout rise to the occasion? I doubt it. He was supposed to impress vs Rodriguez to hope and land a Canelo shot. Instead, he got people not wanting to watch him again.

Trout has too negative of a style to make Cotto uncomfortable or troubled in anyway. I think of Trout similar to Foreman, a boxer mover and something of an unknown quantity. I also remember alot of posters saying Foreman would outbox Cotto, be too fast, and slick for him after the Pac loss and Miguel was with him every step of the way in terms of footwork, positioning, and overall boxing ability.

This fight will be at a very comfortable pace for Cotto where he will be stalking and never on the backfoot at any point slowly breaking Trout down who has never fought anyone close to this level for a late round tko for Cotto.

Trout looked very uncomfortable whenever Rodriguez did decide to initiate (which wasn't very often). Imagine how he will react with Cotto's constant pressure?

I agree with you. Don't get me wrong, trout is not a bad guy, but as a boxer, that last fights I watched from him are boring. He was effective for sure, but I don't think that he actually has what it takes to take Cotto out....

I think Cotto is just going to break him down, to the point that Trout is going to become too defensive concentrating on not getting knocked out and will loose a UD.

Cotto wins via TKO in the 9th I've only seen a couple Trout fights and even though I don't consider him a bad boxer I just don't see him at Miguel's level.

                    #War Cotto
